Niantic ended up apologizing and offering refunds on tickets and $100 in in-game credits to everyone who attended. The event is coming to Lincoln Park on July 14-15, developer Niantic announced Monday.
For the uninitiated, Pokemon GO Fest 2017 was the first instance of Niantic enacting an actual festival built around the game, and the event was supposed to celebrate the one year anniversary of the title's release while marking the launch of Legendary Raids.
Giro d'Italia a bit hit in Israel
In 2014, the Giro started in Belfast, but this year's opening weekend in Israel is the first time it's been outside of Europe. Sacha Modolo (Team EF Education) and Sam Bennet (Bora - Hansgrohe) finished in second and third place, respectively.
Niantic promises a 1.8-mile course in the park that will include physical installations as well as exclusive activities. At the moment, however, details are pretty sparse, with Niantic having only announced three events in three separate cities for the moment. Single-day tickets will cost US$20, and they will go on sale on the event website beginning on May 11.
Pokemon Go Fest won't just be based in Chicago - similar events will be held in Dortmund, Germany and Yokosuka, Japan on other dates. There will also be a Safari Zone event in Yokosuka, Japan later this summer. "A Walk in the Park" will offer a unique, immersive play experience unseen anywhere else that will create a daylong adventure for Trainers. Other parts of Chicago will also see additional in-game activities and the appearance of rare Pokemon. Safari Zone Dortmund is set to take place June 30 and July 1. For those who can't make it to this year's celebration, much like with last year's event, Trainers not at the gathering will still have the opportunity to "engage in a variety of activities and challenges". Unlike the Chicago event, Dortmund's will be free.
