Kim Jong-un to BLOW UP North Korea nuclear test site

The United States is prepared to offer North Korea security assurances if it makes the strategic choice to give up its nuclear weapons, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Sunday.

A number of buildings have been demolished at North Korea's nuclear test site, according to satellite photos made public on Monday, providing proof for the first time that work is underway to dismantle the site.

Among the evidence cited by 38 North is that several key operational support buildings have been razed since its last analysis in April, along with the removal of several small sheds and outbuildings.

Punggye-ri, in the northeast of the country, has been the site of all six of the North's nuclear tests. Then, entries to the site will be blocked and all observation facilities, research institutes and guard structures will be removed.

Pyongyang pledged to close the testing ground after Kim last month declared the country's nuclear force complete and said it had no further need for the complex.

The dismantling will come ahead of a historic summit between Kim Jong-un and Mr. Trump next month in Singapore. Ors simply speculate that base was unusable after last and most potent nuclear test last September.

The assembly introduced Tuesday comes forward of the June 12 summit between Kim and U.S. President Donald Trump.

South Korea's president on Monday welcomed the announcement as the beginning of North Korea's nuclear disarmament.

Still, analysts say the site's closure wouldn't represent a material step toward full denuclearization. But there are lingering doubts about whether Kim will ever agree to fully relinquish his nukes.

Seoul's Ministry of Unification said Tuesday that Pyongyang had invited eight South Korean reporters to the event.

According to a report from Voice of America on Monday, a White House official said while Washington welcomed Pyongyang's decision to close down the nuclear site, the process should undergo inspections by worldwide experts.

However, analysts say the last five nuclear tests were all conducted using the same tunnel, and that although that tunnel may be damaged beyond fix, the North Koreans could dig others for potential future tests.

Moon said Monday that the North's move shows how honest the country is about making the talks between Kim and Trump a success.

Pompeo, who has met twice with the North Korean leader to discuss the summit, said he was "convinced" Kim shared U.S. goals.

"Now that North Korea has accepted in principle that agreements should be verified, US negotiators should hold them to this standard for any subsequent agreement", said Adam Mount, a senior defense analyst at the Federation of American Scientists.

At that meeting, along with establishing a sustainable peace regime and reuniting families, the leaders of the two Koreas said they would foster economic cooperation.
