A candlelight vigil will be held and include the placing of a wreath on the Houston Police Officers Memorial, a roll call of deceased officers, a 21-gun salute, the playing of TAPS, and a fly-over by HPD helicopters.

Police officers Carlos Nunez and Damian Eglesfield accepted a proclamation on behalf of the Cloverdale Police Department at the meeting.

On Peace Officers Memorial Day and during Police Week, we acknowledge the incredible service and sacrifices law enforcement personnel make each day for their fellow Americans.

Today is National Peace Officer Memorial Day, and the family of a Pella officer killed on duty 38 years ago continues to remember his legacy.

The memorial was held outside the State Capitol at the Texas Peace Officers' Memorial, where Gov. Greg Abbott held a ceremony for the state's fallen peace officers the week prior. Attorney General Jeff Sessions commenced the reading of the fallen officers' names, which was then followed by the candle-lighting.

On Oct. 1, 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor officers who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty, and to invite governments of the United States to observe the day.
