The situation of the male suspect, who was taken into an area hospital after being introduced into custody, is unknown.

"In my opinion, they probably saved a hell of a lot of lives today, because this could have gone a lot worse", Perez said of the police response.

President Trump was not at the club at the time of the incident, officials said.

Trump's son Eric thanked police in a tweet Friday morning.

Authorities in Miami responded early Friday to reports of an active shooter at the Trump National Doral who was reportedly yelling and "spewing some information about President Trump". "He had an American flag that he did drape over the counter".

An investigation is underway, and will include the FBI, the Secret Service and local police.
