Putin dismisses G7 criticism as ‘babbling, calls for cooperation

Asked for his impression of the Chinese leader for life, Putin said Xi was "approachable and sincere", as well as "perhaps the only state leader who has celebrated my birthday with me".

The agreement is based on greater intelligence sharing between the countries of the G7 group of industrialised nations - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK and the USA - and aims to identify, prevent and respond to hostile state activity including cyber-attacks.

The group demonstrated solidarity in pledging to uphold the Iran nuclear deal, a major source of G7 contention after Trump's withdrawal last month.

The leaders of the US, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, Italy and Britain made the strongly worded statement just hours after US President Donald Trump, who is part of the G7, said he wanted Moscow re-invited to the group.

Touching on the close stance of Iran and Pakistan regarding the issues of the region and Islamic World, he said, "at regional and worldwide meetings, including the recent summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Iran and Pakistan have had close stances in condemning the relocation of USA embassy to the Holy Quds as well as the demonstrations in the two countries in support of Palestine on Quds Day".

Trump faces his own problems with the G-7′s other members, especially over trade policy.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, whose country is an observer member, also attended the meeting as he seeks Chinese and Russian support following the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Tehran. "It would require consensus to bring Russian Federation back and that consensus will just not happen", he said in 2015. "As soon as he is ready, the meeting will take place, depending, of course, on my working schedule". If Hillary got in, I think Putin is probably going, 'Man I wish Hillary won, ' because you see what I do.

Trump has said he was open to having a summit with Putin, who USA intelligence officials have said directed Russian meddling in the 2016 election to help Trump win.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump said Russian Federation deserved to rejoin the group.

"We did not (choose to) leave it, our colleagues refused to come to Russian Federation due to known reasons at some point".

The president's move to reject the communique contradicted a statement from Trudeau earlier, in which the prime minister announced "we have released a joint communique by all seven countries".

Russian Federation was a member of the G8 until it was suspended in 2014 when it annexed the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine.

"For Putin, this is return on his investment, and it's safe to say that his investment has paid off beyond even his wildest dreams", he said in a statement to CNN.

The three countries are neighbors and traditional strategic partners to each other, and enjoy natural advantages and a good foundation for cooperation, he said.

Moscow has denied any interference, and U.S. President Donald Trump has denied any collusion.
