Sony Issues Statement on Fortnite Controversy Amid Backlash

Someone who started an Epic account on PS4 can not use that account on Xbox One or - and more important - the Nintendo Switch. This is especially problematic for players who started playing Fortnite on PS4 and were hoping to continue on a different platform, as they can't carry any of their progress over.

"We're always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested in to enhance their gaming experience." the statement reads before continuing on to highlight the number of PS4 Fornite players, as well as cross-platform play with IOS, Android and PC. Switch and Xbox One users could play with each other, as well as PC users, but not with PS4 players. "We have nothing further to add beyond this at this point", the Sony spokesperson finished.

When attempting to log-in with a PS4-created Epic Games account on the Switch, they are met with this response: "This Fortnite account is associated with a platform which does not allow it to operate on Switch". He told me that PlayStation has enough people for you to play with, so Sony doesn't need Xbox or Switch players. They want to be able to enjoy the same games they do at home while out in the world, and Sony's stance on disallowing competition between consoles is making that hard. These links leave Siliconera. And if you want to use your Epic account to track your progress in Fortnite, well ... you can't - but why don't you just keep using your PlayStation 4.

Among the agency's recommendations: Reduce a high-risk person's access to lethal items such as medications and firearms. The highest suicide rate increase was in North Dakota, at 57.6 percent, while the lowest was in DE , at 5.9 percent.

It's been roughly 16 months since the Nintendo Switch launched and there's still no sight of Netflix or Youtube, but that will change in "due time", according to Reggie Fils-Aime. This means that a Fortnite account, once logged-in on a PlayStation 4 is then forever tied to that platform. (Unless keeping its console separate from the others becomes a deal-breaker with consumers, in which case even Sony might be persuaded to stop creating artificial boundaries along console lines between players.) Games will remain fragmented. However since that time the headline has turned into Sony backlash in a very unusual case that all but erases the PlayStation 4's "for the players" tagline.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime made a decision to weigh in on the situation at E3, saying that his company has no problem with cross-play against competing console systems. That's unfortunate for anyone who wanted to play Fortnite with their friends regardless of what console they own.
