A former coal lobbyist is the new leader of the EPA

"It is extremely hard for me to cease serving you in this role first because I count it a blessing to be serving you in any capacity", Pruitt wrote in his resignation letter to President Trump, "but also, because of the transformative work that is occurring".

When asked about the latest news on Pruitt, a spokesman for the EPA said the agency "will not be commenting on anonymous sources who are working to distract Americans from the Trump administration's accomplishments on regulatory certainty and environmental stewardship".

Trump tweeted that he has "no doubt that Andy will continue on with our great and lasting EPA agenda". But, according to the New York Times, "several other names have also been floated as possible successors to Pruitt, including Donald Van der Vaart, a former senior environmental official in North Carolina, who Pruitt selected to serve on an EPA scientific advisory board".

Speaking to Jim Sciutto on "The Lead with Jake Tapper", the independent Vermont senator said he is "vigorously opposed" to Wheeler as Pruitt's replacement.

Trump's unusual "let bygones be bygones" attitude may be due to Wheeler's seeming commitment to an even more aggressively deregulatory tenure than former Administrator Scott Pruitt, and unlikeliness to follow in Pruitt's scandal-swamped footsteps. And as acting administrator position at the EPA, he will be able to further implement the deregulation of environmental protection that Pruitt and the Trump administration set out to achieve in the first place.

Wheeler worked at FaegreBD Consulting and Faegre Baker Daniels law firm before going to the EPA. James Inhofe, a Republican from Oklahoma who infamously brought a snowball onto the Senate floor in an effort to illustrate his point that there is no unprecedented climate change. In his place, his deputy, Andrew Wheeler, will be installed as acting head of the agency.

Unlike Pruitt, Wheeler is an old DC hand, adept at negotiating tricky situations and dense regulations.

Syrian opposition calls for end to attacks on Daraa
Israel and Jordan - which already hosts over 666,000 United Nations registered refugees - say they will not let refugees in. Israel has sent humanitarian aid across the border for several years.

"I am the deputy administrator", Wheeler said. "I wasn't interested in that", he said last month. One of his biggest clients was Murray Energy, which is one of the largest coal companies in the country.

The administration knew that more damaging reports would emerge soon, one of the people said.

Bennett says the dynamic of the voting public has changed since Pruitt's reign as the state's attorney general.

The moment you'd been waiting for arrived on Thursday afternoon when Scott Pruitt, fan of fancy lotions and fossil fuel lobbyists, finally resigned as head of the EPA.

"I have accepted the resignation of Scott Pruitt as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency", tweeted the president, ending months of speculation about the future of the man he tasked with dismantling Barack Obama's green legacy.

That contrasts with how many people viewed Pruitt, who was widely thought to be trying to use EPA as a stepping stool to reach higher political office.
