Francesco Molinari wins the British Open

Justin Rose, who made the cut with an 18-foot birdie putt on the final hole of the second round, is 5 under through 15 holes and 2 under for the tournament.

Kisner would have loved a finish like that. "I need to go get it", Woods said. Finally, they talked about how younger players have adapted to playing alongside Woods and the talk that he generates.

It sets up a weekend with endless possibilities.

While Spieth, Schauffele and Kisner endured a rollercoaster ride across the sun-blasted links, as if spooked by the presence of a resurgent Woods, Molinari cranked out 13 consecutive pars before making his move. He was tied there with third round co-leader Kevin Kisner.

It looked like he might do just that going into the final day.

.

Tiger Woods powered into the reckoning at Carnoustie and Jordan Spieth made a stunning start to take a joint-share of the lead as moving day lived up to its name during Saturday's third round at The Open.

He was nine shots behind Zach Johnson and Kevin Kisner, who shared the lead at Carnoustie on 6-under 136.

"Very happy to be back in the tournament", Spieth said.

The 42-year-old amazed the golfing world in the final round as he played flawless golf in his first 10 holes Sunday at a hard and windy Carnoustie to move from four back at 5 under into the solo lead at 7 under.

"That putt on the last, I'll never forget", he said. But while they were all over par on the front nine, he made birdie on No. 4 and then added another on the par-5 sixth. The greens held shots a little better. But 69 was the low score among the first 22 players out in Sunday's final round as the breeze was blowing 15-20 miles per hour. "That's a pretty dramatic difference in distance".

The 24-year-old Californian burst on to the scene by winning twice in 2017, at the Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia and at the lucrative, season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta. I've played with him before in Ryder Cups and in big occasions, so I knew what was coming, and I was ready for it. Woods was in control of his game at the halfway point, with a one-shot lead at the turn, within reach of a 15th major. As for talking shop? "The Tiger we have to face, he does things that maybe he didn't do (before)", McIlroy said.

Thomas will have one of the horror stories. Seen as the favorite among the trio sharing the 54-hole lead, Spieth came undone on the par-5 sixth hole after hitting into a gorse bush en route to a double bogey. He had a chance to salvage his round late until a bogey on the 17th hole. It felt like old times at the British Open, as familiar as his Sunday red shirt and the swarm of fans that cheered his every shot.

"He's been playing unbelievable golf".

But not necessarily at the British Open. "Would have been better if I made that putt (a 10-footer for birdie on the 18th), but didn't hit it where I thought the line was, and it broke too much".

Ominously for his rivals, Woods admitted afterwards he hadn't felt as good as this at a major in a long time.

Jordan Spieth was tied for the lead at Carnoustie as he tries to become the first repeat victor in 10 years at the British Open. It was the first time since the 2007 U.S. Open that he trailed going into the final round of a major, had the lead and didn't win. His low ball flight, grinding nature and good putting give him the right ingredients.

For a change from his first two rounds, Sharma did get an early birdie on the second hole with a peach of an approach shot from a tight angle to about six feet.

"Today I played in front of Rory McIlroy's crowd and guys were just yelling all the time, even while he's trying to putt, and he had to step off a few times".

FC Barcelona have confirmed the arrival of Brazilian winger Malcom
He will now, though, become Barcelona's second major signing of the summer window following the arrival of Clement Lenglet from Sevilla .
