'N-word' screaming Republican lawmaker quits after Sacha Baron Cohen prank

Georgia state representative Jason Spencer finally resigned after humiliating himself on the most recent episode of Sacha Baron Cohen's show Who Is America? .

Spencer, a Republican who represents state House District 180 that represents Camden and parts of Charlton and Ware counties, appeared in a segment in which the show's star, Sacha Baron Cohen, played a character named Col. Erran Morad.

Spencer repeatedly shouts a racial slur for black people after Cohen tells him the tactic is useful for drawing bystanders' attention to an unfolding attack.

On camera, Baron Cohen then convinced the seemingly oblivious USA legislator to drop his trousers and charge backwards by telling him Islamic State militants are intimidated by bare buttocks.

Spencer apologized for what he called a "ridiculously ugly episode", but initially refused to step down. Originally Spencer said that he would finish out the remaining five months of his term, but apparently the pressure to resign has been too intense.

Following the video's release, Spencer issued a statement that the British comedian "fraudulently induced me in participating in bogus self-defense and anti-terrorism training".

The newspaper noted that if Spencer had declined to step down, he would have faced potential repercussions.

He is the brother of former Nawaz Sharif who was ousted over corruption allegations and is now serving a 10-year jail term. At the request of the election commission, Pakistan's military deployed 350,000 troops countrywide at polling stations.

Spencer's resignation will take effect on July 31, according to a letter he submitted to Georgia House Speaker David Ralston, CNN reported.

Cohen had told Mr Spencer this would incite fear in homophobic jihadists.

Who Is America? airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime.

Mr Spencer has since apologised for his behaviour and said he "deeply regrets" the language he used. "There is no excuse for this type of behavior, ever, and I am saddened and disgusted by it".

Cohen, meanwhile, has racked up a string of gotcha videos with politicians for "Who Is America".

Ralston said the legislator "disgraced himself and should resign immediately", The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
