GOP House Members Move To Impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein

The former judge discussed the articles of impeachment introduced by a group of conservative House lawmakers late Wednesday against Rosenstein, the top Department of Justice (DOJ) official overseeing special counsel Robert MuellerRobert Swan MuellerSasse: US should applaud choice of Mueller to lead Russian Federation probe MORE's Russian Federation investigation.

Meadows said Wednesday that he wouldn't rule out re-filing the articles of impeachment using a procedural maneuver, known as a privileged motion, that would require the full House to vote within two days. They were introduced by Freedom Caucus founder Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and current Chairman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), along with nine other members.

House Speaker Paul Ryan has also said he is satisfied with progress on the document production. It's most likely that the whole gesture is just part of an effort to ratchet up the pressure on Rosenstein and DoJ to play along with their conspiracy theories, or perhaps to undermine Mueller by discrediting Rosenstein. "Enough is enough. It's time to hold Mr Rosenstein accountable for blocking Congress's constitutional oversight role".

Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy noted that the Department of Justice is now handing over some documents - which Napolitano argued is in response to "baseless" threats.

Eleven House Republicans have introduced articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. The House is also leaving for a monthlong recess after Thursday.

"This resolution to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein is a direct attack on the Special Counsel's investigation - full stop".

But Republican lawmakers maintain that while the Justice Department is turning over more materials, it has yet to fully comply with the subpoenas.

At a Congressional hearing last month, Rosenstein responded to charges by Jordan that he was "hiding information from Congress". Jim Jordan of OH and Mark Meadows of North Carolina, according to a release by Jordan's office.

"Those are good arguments for ethical violations but not impeachable offenses", Napolitano said, calling the effort to impeach Rosenstein "wrong and baseless [and] embarrassing for everybody involved".

The last time the House actually voted to impeach an executive branch official other than a president was 1876.

So far, the special counsel has charged 32 people and three companies.

Democratic Reps. Jerrold Nadler of New York, Elijah Cummings of Maryland and Adam Schiff of California said Rosenstein "stands as one of the few restraints against the overreaches of the president and his allies in Congress".
