Hodgson believes star player will stay despite Chelsea and Spurs interest

Chelsea have been cleared to push ahead with a deal for Wilfried Zaha after Tottenham withdrew their interest due to Crystal Palace's £75m asking price, according to the Mirror.

The Chelsea power brokers will decide whether or not to pursue an 11th-hour move for Zaha.

Everton were interested in signing the Ivory Coast global earlier this summer but Zaha was reluctant to move north again after his failed stint at Manchester United a few years ago, so the Toffees signed Richarlison from Watford instead.

Roy Hodgson does not want to lose the difference-maker and Palace are digging in to ensure he stays put at Selhurst Park.

Tottenham were interested in signing Zaha this window, but have chose to pursue Aston Villa's Jack Grealish instead.

Instead, he is eager for a big-money move to Chelsea, with Maurizio Sarri potentially in the market for a marauding frontman should Willian leave.

The Blues, who finished fifth in the top-flight last term, have signed only Jorginho and Rob Green this summer but have expressed interest in Palace's Zaha.

The report believes that Chelsea is the destination that the 25-year-old prefers, and he has allegedly told his teammates the same.

That deal would have increased his wage to £125,000 per week, but Zaha is well aware that he could earn significantly more at Stamford Bridge.

Zaha has been linked with a move to Chelsea but Palace are unwilling to let their star man goes.

It would require a huge offer to convince Palace to part with Zaha, without whom they are a significantly inferior team. An interesting next few days beckon.
