Paul Pogba's season-opening penalty... with stuttering run-up

Pogba has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona in recent weeks, amid suggestions that he was disappointed by Mourinho's faint praise of his achievement as he played a pivotal role in helping France win the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer.

Pogba resisted the pleas of Sanchez to take the spot-kick and after a prolonged stuttering run up, dispatched his shot into the top corner giving Kasper Schmeichel no chance to repeat his penalty saving heroics at the World Cup for Denmark.

There were a few nervous moments for United at the end when Vardy pulled a goal back.

This was the third time in a row that Leicester had conceded the first goal of the Premier League season.

"It's important to win and play well", Mourinho said. "We knew it was going to be hard because some of us, including myself, didn't have any pre-season games".

- Leicester City (@LCFC) August 10, 2018There has been a general buzz in the footballing world as fans eagerly awaited the start of the new season following the hugely successful World Cup. I am looking forward to seeing how their season progresses from here.

England vs India 2nd Test, Day 2: Play stopped due to rain
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the Test match and that could mean an unchanged Indian seam attack. Rain meant there was no play on the first day of the second Test between England and India at Lord's on Thursday.

Amid rumours of a rift between the Manchester United manager and his star player, Pogba starts as United's captain against Leicester City on Friday night.

That's according to Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas.

"We played against a team that invest more than us". Paul, he was fantastic his contribution was wonderful, but the fuel was disappearing every minute so we were in trouble and I needed [Marouane] Fellaini and [Scott] McTominay to give me that balance in midfield.

United kick-started their campaign on the right foot with a 2-1 victory over Leicester as Luke Shaw followed up Pogba's opener with a second goal in the 83rd minute before Jamie Vardy scored what turned out to be a consolation goal for Leicester. "We thought he would manage maximum 60 minutes and he went much longer", Mourinho said. "All my players did not have 90 minutes in their legs and bodies".

Pogba was not the only United player to impress me.

Of Pogba's penalty, which came after just 75 seconds, he said: "A very good penalty taker".
