Progress On Mendocino Complex Fire As Firefight Enters 3rd Week

Personnel from the same base helped fight California wildfires past year.

A 51-year-old man who is accused of making the threat, "This place will burn", for over three years has been arrested and charged with starting the so-called "Holy Fire", causing almost 10,000 acres to burn and 20,000 people to be placed under evacuation orders at Cleveland National Forest in Southern California.

Santa Barbara City Fire posted an update on their crews working at the Carr Fire Thursday night.

All 12 nearby properties were burned by the fire, with only Mr Clark's home left standing.

Additional fire crews have been brought in from surrounding counties and states, and from as far away as Australia and New Zealand.

"I can handle a million right now easily", the arson suspect said.

"I've been trying for years to get someone to pay attention and nobody has really had the opportunity to do that until now", he said. Volunteer Fire Chief Mike Milligan, who also has a cabin in the area, says every resident in the canyon is afraid of him.

So far California wineries have emerged unscathed from the fires with no reports of vineyards lost, though a number are testing their vines for smoke taint.

The state's largest wildfire in history has drawn a contingent to battle what is actually two fires burning so closely together that they're being attacked as one.

The charges can carry a life sentence.

Maryland firefighters head west to battle wildfires

Gusty, erratic winds and high temperatures over the weekend threaten to "increase the likelihood of extreme fire behavior".

On Thursday afternoon, the flames raced downhill toward Lake Elsinore, threatening homes and prompting mandatory evacuation orders for homes fronting the mountains.

Orange County sheriff's deputies said they have had multiple encounters with Clark dating back to 2006, according to Carrie Braun, a spokeswoman for the department.

Clark's arraignment was delayed Thursday and could take place Friday, according to Rebecca Moss, a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office.

Clark allegedly started the fire following a dispute with Milligan.

He claimed during the interview that he was the target of threats from the MS-13 gang.

Teresita Reyes was among some 20,000 people under evacuation orders, saying she was attending a wedding Wednesday when she received the order to evacuate. "Weather conditions will continue to challenge firefighters as hot, dry and windy conditions persist", officials said in a statement.

The fire is burning through steep, mountainous terrain filled with dried-out shrubs that are ideal fuel for the blaze.

The Carr fire in northern California has spread through 181,000 acres and destroyed more than 1,000 homes.

The Department of the Interior oversees the Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service, while the Department of Agriculture manages the National Forest Service, which collectively oversee much of the federal land in California.
