CBS CEO Les Moonves Accused of Sex Crimes, Violence By More Women

The New Yorker said Moonves had, in a statement, acknowledged three of the encounters but said they were consensual and occurred "before I came to CBS".

Since joining CBS in 1995, Moonves transformed the corporation into the most watched television network in the country and one of the media industry's best-performing businesses.

CBS announced that chief operating officer Joseph Ianniello will be president and acting CEO, overseeing all operations of the company, while the board searches for a permanent successor.

A statement posted on CBS's website says Moonves' resignation is effective immediately. She said he then began to retaliate against her on the job.

"I definitely think he should resign, and I don't think he should get $100 million to resign", said Linda Silverthorn, who accused Moonves of unwanted sexual advances in the New Yorker article. "No one was going to take me", she told the New Yorker.

Moonves is one of the media world's highest paid CEOs, so his severance package would normally be generous, even gargantuan.

Moonves, who orchestrated CBS's revival into a ratings victor, had been one of the most respected executives in Hollywood until he was accused in late July of inappropriate behavior stretching back decades.

Golden-Gottlieb said she made no complaint at the time because she was a single mother supporting two children.

Both these smartphones would come with an OLED display, with the former sporting a 5.8-inch panel and the latter a 6.5 inch one. The publication has since heard that Apple will likely use the name iPhone Xs Max for the larger 6.5-inch variant.

Instead, the board offered a roughly $100 million golden parachute that is mostly made up of CBS stocks.

Remarkably, with the company under siege and activists and others calling for Moonves' ouster, he continued to shepherd the company's day-to-day activities, memorably conducting an earnings call with Wall Street analysts.

Moonves' allies will surely cast his exit as a corporate coup - a successful effort by Redstone to gain a tighter grip on CBS.

With Moonves' exit, CBS viewers will wonder what the future holds for Chen, who is a panelist on the daytime show "The Talk" and host of the summer series "Big Brother".

Following the New Yorker report in August, Moonves said he regretted "immensely" making some women uncomfortable by making advances, but added that he abided by the principle that "no" means 'no, ' and stated he had never misused his position to harm or hinder anyone's career.

With the probes under way, the New Yorker on Sunday reported sexual harassment allegations against Moonves from several more women. Now, though, CBS has dropped its suit, and National Amusements - the theater company owned by the Redstone family - is adding six new independent directors to the CBS board. The CBS board is being reshaped, with six new directors, and Redstone is repeating her vow to consider new bids from potential buyers.

Moonves was an advocate for the traditional broadcast network model when others anxious it was becoming obsolete, but he also launched streaming services for CBS entertainment and news. Discussions had focused on the size of a severance package, and on whether Moonves would move to a producer role, the Times reported. Farrow writes that law enforcement sources found her allegation credible, but the statute of limitations had expired.

CBS said Moonves will not receive any severance benefits and any future payments would be dependent on the outcome of an independent investigation now taking place.
