Tesla's newly hired chief accounting officer abruptly resigned on Tuesday, the company has disclosed in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Tesla shares have fallen sharply after two senior executives abruptly left the electric vehicle firm headed by Elon Musk.

The promotions follow what have been a tumultuous few weeks for Musk, an increasingly mercurial chief executive who got himself into some hot water last month with a proposal to take Tesla private.

Tesla's chief accounting officer, Dave Morton, said he was leaving the company after considering the level of attention Tesla has received and the "pace within the company". "As a result, this caused me to reconsider my future", Morton was quoted as saying in a company filing.

In an interview with comedian Joe Rogan, Musk drank whiskey and tried a marijuana-and-tobacco cigarette proffered by the comedian as he mused about artificial intelligence and colonizing space. Employees at both its Fremont, California, auto factory and Reno, Nevada, battery Gigafactory, have been living through what Musk has called "production hell", working to ramp up production of the company's critical Model 3 sedan.

Tesla's $1.8 billion (roughly Rs. 13,000 crores) junk bond maturing in August 2025 plunged as much as 4 cents on the dollar to below 82 cents, a record low, in Friday trading, pushing the yield above 8.8 percent.

Concerned investors drove Tesla's stock price down 5 percent to $265.22 as of 12:12 p.m. on Friday.

Jerome Guillen, an eight-year veteran of the company, will now oversee all automotive operations, program management, and the company's automotive supply chain, and report directly to Musk.
