Tupac Shakur Suge Knight manslaughter death jail sentence hip hop rap Compton

The deadly confrontation occurred on January 29, 2015, outside a hamburger stand in the Los Angeles suburb of Compton, following a heated argument on the set of a commercial for the film "Straight Outta Compton".

According to the sheriff's department, Knight reversed over the men and hit them again as he drove off. Knight reportedly fled the scene of the incident before authorities arrived. His trial was scheduled to begin October 1.

Previously, Knight had been sentenced to five years' probation after pleading no contest to assaulting two rappers in 1995.

The Death Row Records co-founder entered the plea in Los Angeles Superior Court and has agreed to serve 28 years in prison.

Suge Knight is now 53 years old which means that he will be in his 80s before he is released from prison.

Two other criminal cases against Knight will be dismissed at sentencing.

The vehicle is then seen zooming forward, back into camera range, running over Sloan a second time, and then running over a second man, Carter, a former rap music label owner. His attorneys had said he was acting in self-defence and was fleeing armed attackers when he ran over Mr Carter and Mr Sloan.

Knight has always been known as much for his run-ins with the law and brushes with violence and as for his career as a rap music executive who promoted the likes of Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur in the 1990s.

On Thursday, while Coen read legal language about the plea and told Knight he was subject to deportation if he was not a citizen, Knight said "ICE is coming to get me?" to a smattering of laughs. He is expected to be sentenced to 28 years in state prison on the charge.
