Nana Patekar cancels press meet to address Tanushree Dutta’s allegation

The Maharashtra State Commission for Women on Tuesday took cognisance of sexual harassment charges levelled by actress and former Miss India Tanushree Dutta on critically-acclaimed actor Nana Patekar. The media was informed about the cancellation by Nana's son Malhar. Bollywood's cliquey nature also made it hard to go public, she said. It has also asked the actress to visit the commission's office to record her statement. However, on the fourth day of the shoot, Nana Patekar's behavior was inappropriate.

But emboldened by the global #MeToo campaign - where women have shared accounts of harassment or assault - Dutta repeated the allegations in a recent interview and on Saturday went to the police to officially report the 2008 sexual harrassment claims.

"The narrative of the video was edited in a way that it looks like Kumar is expressing his views on the Dutta-Patekar controversy, which he never did", said an officer to HT.

But to her surprise, new steps were introduced by Acharya, which were intimate and included Patekar touching her inappropriately, she alleged.

Last week, Tanushree also filed a written complaint on the same at the Oshiwara police station here.

By-elections to fill 11 parliamentary seats and 19 provincial assembly seats are scheduled for October 14. The activists of Pakistan Muslim League-N Woman Wing staged a rally outside the Peshawar Press Club.

She has been offered to be part of the controversial reality show in the past too. "I am claustrophobic anyway, I need to move around", she added.

Ms Dutta stated that she had also lodged a complaint with Cine And TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) in March 2008.

The Natsamrat star today addressed the media and said that whatever he said 10 years back, will say the same thing and that is the truth. "Jo jhooth hai, woh jhooth hai (A lie is a lie)" he said before getting into a vehicle.

"After the above incident I was under tremendous shock and I suffered psychological trauma and was unable to take work and suffered huge monetary loss in crores", Dutta said in the letter.
