Khawaja delivers one of the 'great' Test innings to rescue Australia

(Dunya News) - The first Test match of two-match series between Australia and Pakistan ended in draw as Australian skipper Paine defied odds to survive almost fifteen overs with the tail.

Australia are now on their first Test series since the ban of their iconic players Steve Smith and David Warner due to the ball-tampering saga.

"It was extremely tough test match".

Pakistan started the day needing seven wickets to win but nothing worked for skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, despite multiple bowling changes. Pakistan started their second innings with a lead of 280.

Set an improbable victory target of 462, Australia resumed on 136-3 hoping to bat out the final day to force a draw at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Yasir had shaken the Australian innings with 4-114 but Australia clung on.

Susan Collins: I don't believe Kavanaugh was Ford's assailant
Collins said she found accuser Christine Blasey Ford's testimony "sincere, painful and compelling". "Everybody knows that", Ms. She called it "the most hard in the 22 years that I've been honored to represent the state of Maine in the Senate".

Finch, who took an unsuccessful review, hit five boundaries in his knock. Travis Head recorded his maiden fifty in his debut game itself like Aaron Finch who did in first innings. The pair eventually put on an invaluable 132 runs for the fourth wicket. His partner Khawaja played in the same mode and went on to hit his first Test century in Asia. Then Shah claimed his first wicket of the match by snaring Marnus Labuschagne (13) lbw off a quicker legbreak.

Khawaja, 31, who spent nearly nine hours at the crease for his 141 and also scored 85 in the first innings, helped the Aussies survive 140 overs as they chased an improbable 462 to win.

Jon Holland, who took the key wicket of Azhar Ali for four on Tuesday, dismissed opener Imam-ul-Haq for 48, caught and bowled off a flighted delivery.

Paine was running out of his partners as he lost three of his partners in a meantime and he was blindfolded at the situation. But Paine (61) and Nathan Lyon (5) remained unbeaten to seal the draw as Australia finished on 362-8 - the second highest fourth-innings score by a visiting team in a test in Asia.

Khawaja and Paine seemed to be carrying Australia to safety in their sixth-wicket stand lasting 36 overs. "Wasn't thinking too much", Khawaja, who was adjudged man-of-the-match award, said.
