Rectangular iceberg spotted by NASA is real

Washington D.C. [USA], Oct 24 (ANI): Operation IceBridge, NASA's aerial survey of polar ice, captured two tabular icebergs while flying over the northern Antarctic Peninsula. But alien conspiracy fans will be disappointed to learn that it's a naturally occurring phenomenon.

As NASA's Operation IceBridge missions (which survey Antarctica from 1,500 above) recently observed, this iceberg was surrounded by other tabular slabs, freshly calved into the frigid sea. People didn't just find it interesting, they became totally obsessed with its weird geometric perfection and demanded more.

Well here's something you don't see everyday: an iceberg so unbelievably geometric in shape you'd think it was deliberately carved with a enormous chainsaw.

Brunt explained to the science website that tabular icebergs are long, wide and flat and break away from ice shelves. The perfectly square iceberg reportedly broke off from the Larsen C ice shelf that also produced the A-68 iceberg previous year. Because the recently photographed iceberg was still sharp around the edges, NASA scientists said it's likely that this berg was cleaved off not too long ago.

These particular icebergs can be truly enormous, measuring hundreds and occasionally thousands of square kilometers across, such as the 11,000 square kilometer (4,200 square mile) B-15, the world's largest free-floating object ever recorded. "And then you have what are called 'tabular icebergs'".

Guti a candidate to take over from Lopetegui at Real Madrid
It's no surprise that Florentino Perez, the firecracker in charge of Los Blancos, has made a move in the midst of the struggles. Julen Lopetegui must have known what he was in for when accepting an offer for the Real Madrid job in the summer.

"The Larsen C is a large ice shelf".

Eric Rignot, a research scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab and a professor at UC Irvine, agrees that Larsen C's massive size created the rectangular shape.

Kelly Brunt, an ice scientist with NASA told LiveScience that these types of icebergs were fairly common.

Experts have said if all of the Larsen C was to break free it could add another 4 inches (10 cm) to global sea levels over the years - however the breakage may not be down to climate change.

A crack in the Larsen C ice shelf grew 17 kilometres in December.
