Shaqiri: I can handle trip to Red Star Belgrade

Shaqiri: I can handle trip to Red Star Belgrade

Mohamed Salah reached 50 goals for Liverpool after scoring a brace against Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday night.

The "Egyptian King" was the star of a 4-0 rout of Serbian side in Liverpool's Champions League Group C victory, netting two goals either side of half time, the first to double the lead after a Roberto Firmino opener, then from the spot before Sadio Mane added afourth ten minutes from time. "It is a game where I am trying my best to give him good performances".

The two-time Champions League victor also backed Mohamed Salah to exorcise his demons from last season's final in Kiev and rediscover his Midas touch after his victor against Huddersfield on Saturday.

"You should not think about it, you should not constantly think about how can I score again?"

Jurgen Klopp said he would gather more information about the controversy.

"It's good that we maybe can stop talking about that [his scoring record] - it helps a little bit".

"It is an exceptional number and hopefully he can continue".

The 26-year-old's impressive performance saw him nominated for the award alongside AS Roma striker Eden Dzeko, Man City midfielder David Silva, and Borussia Dortmund full-back Achraf Hakimi.

"I just want to say, "thankyou" for that", said Shaqiri. "But you can not do more than win your own games".

"I am proud to have started in the Champions League".

Red Star were banned from selling tickets to their fans for the first two away games of this season's Champions League after fans caused disturbances, invaded the pitch and set off fireworks during their qualifier against RB Salzburg in August.

Shaqiri, born in Kosovo, was fined by Federation Internationale de Football Association for celebrating a World Cup goal with a gesture imitating a double-headed eagle, the Albanian national symbol, after scoring for Switzerland against Serbia. "One player, I think, said something".

"You can not win a game 4-0 if most of the things are not really good and tonight most of the things were really good".
