Jamal Khashoggi's killing was 'extrajudicial execution': United Nations expert

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has stopped short of directly blaming the Saudi government, said the 18 suspects must know who killed Khashoggi and repeated his call for the men to be tried in Turkey.

Erdogan also says Turkey has other "information and evidence" about the Khashoggi's killing by Saudi officials in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, and that it will eventually reveal that information.

Salah Khashoggi, who holds dual U.S. -Saudi citizenship and had thus far been under a travel ban, departed Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

Trump and Prince Mohammed have cultivated warm ties though the United States president said earlier this week that the crown prince, as the kingdom's de facto ruler, bore ultimate responsibility for the operation against Khashoggi.

"Failure of any one nation to adhere to global norms and the rule of law undermines regional stability at a time when it is needed most", Mattis said.

The CIA had no comment on a Washington Post report that Haspel had listened to audio purportedly capturing Khashoggi's killing.

Saudi Attorney General Saud al-Mojeb said investigators came to that conclusion after evidence presented by Turkish officials as part of the two nations' probe into the killing.

Saudi Arabia's public prosecutor said Thursday a joint Saudi-Turkish investigation shows that Khashoggi's murder was "premeditated", dismissing an earlier account that the dissident journalist had died in a botched operation to "negotiate" his return to the kingdom.

This month, President Donald Trump said Saudi Arabia's King Salman might not last two weeks without the U.S., escalating pressure on the Saudis to curb rising oil prices and to pay for military protection.

Saudi Arabia initially denied all knowledge of the journalist's fate.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and a critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, disappeared after entering the consulate to obtain paperwork necessary for his upcoming marriage to Cengiz, a Turkish national.

It's unclear whether USA intelligence agrees. On Tuesday, Pompeo announced that 21 Saudi "suspects" would have their US visas revoked or be deemed ineligible for a USA visa for their role in the murder.

The Turkish government has demanded that Saudi Arabia's government disclose the whereabouts of Kashoggi's body and force his murderers to turn themselves in for trial.

Erdogan and Trudeau stressed the need to shed light on the killing and the importance of punishing the culprits, said a source from Turkish presidency, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

"Did you see that WWE is still going to Saudi Arabia?"

Some of those implicated in Khashoggi's killing are close to Prince Mohammed, who is the kingdom's heir apparent.

"This issue has become fairly hysterical", Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said.
