Scalise Doesn't Object To Trump's Talk Of Ordering End To Birthright Citizenship

Mr. Trump told online political outlet Axios in an interview released Tuesday that he will pursue an executive order on birthright citizenship.

Trump offered these comments to Axios while dismissing the legal challenges that would inevitably come from trying to undercut 14th Amendment birthright citizenship.

Both the 14th Amendment and the INA include this clause.

Politics or not, immigration lawyers say no president can unilaterally end citizenship rights for children of non-citizens who are born on USA soil.

Americans "cherish the language of the 14th Amendment", Pence told Politico Playbook, "but the Supreme Court of the United States has never ruled on whether or not the language of the 14th Amendment subject to the jurisdiction thereof applies specifically to people who are in the country illegally".

Sen. Lindsey Graham, a previous advocate of bipartisan immigration overhaul and who could be the chairman of the Judiciary Committee in the next Congress, is praising President Donald Trump's effort to roll back birthright citizenship by executive fiat. What's even scarier is that even if he decides to sign an "executive order", there is no branch of government to stop him.

The CIA had no comment on a Washington Post report that Haspel had listened to audio purportedly capturing Khashoggi's killing. Saudi Arabia initially denied all knowledge of the journalist's fate.

"Let me say this: Up until today, I would have said if the election were held today, we will win", Pelosi told Colbert.

As it stands, children born to non-US citizens on American soil have the right to U.S. citizenship in almost all circumstances. "Do you want to say that on Hillary's fireworks barge that she canceled?"

"With an executive order", the President interjected, confirming he had thought about doing it.

The next sentence details protections and rights that apply to everyone in the USA, including non-citizens.

Experts strongly dispute Trump's claims.

The president has previously described birthright citizenship as a "magnet" for illegal immigration and the 14th Amendment as "questionable" in this context.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that she's more confident about the midterms for Democrats than ever before, vowing on CBS's "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" that "we will win".
