Champions League reaction: Liverpool lose at Red Star & Tottenham defeat PSV

Liverpool have left Swiss worldwide Xherdan Shaqiri out of the squad for Tuesday's Champions League tie at Red Star Belgrade, saying they were uncertain over what sort of reception he would receive in the Serbian capital.

A victory in Serbia would have consolidated Liverpool's spot at the top of the group but the defeat leaves them in a vulnerable position with games against PSG and Napoli to come.

Xherdan Shaqiri has been left out of Liverpool's squad for their Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade in Serbia "to avoid any distractions".

Adam Lallana nearly got Liverpool back in the game moments later but his header was deflected just wide, and Sturridge then fired wide from just inside the box.

Klopp added: "We are Liverpool FC, a big club, a football team, but we don't have any message further than that".

This will be Liverpool's first away game against Red Star in European competition since October 1973, when they lost 2-1 in the first leg of a Last 16 tie in the European Cup/Champions League.

The Walking Dead's Rick Grimes is getting his own movie trilogy spin-off
The Walking Dead viewers saw Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln ) exit the show in the latest instalment of the AMC series. Their "groundbreaking" new deals allow them to freely move between any Walking Dead properties that the network is planning.

And their performance highlights a worrying trend for Liverpool under Klopp, that their midfield fails to really take games by the scruff of the neck when their opponents sit deep and frustrate them.

"It's a situation where we will go to the fantastic city of Belgrade as a football team to play football", Klopp told Liverpool's official website.

Milan Pavkov scored both goals for Red Star, as they picked up their first win of the season in the Champions League and blew Group C wide open. Very dominant, didn't give a lot of counter-attacks away but we had moments we had "nearly" chances but the biggest chances were in the last two or three minutes.

And the German knows the game won't be easy, saying: "It will be really tough and we have to be ready for that". Mohamed Salah stung the Canadian's palms with a long range drive before clipping the post with an effort from the resulting corner.

Former Arsenal striker, Charlie Nicholas has tipped Juventus to defeat Manchester United 2-0 in Wednesday's Champions League clash.

However, they are a different proposition at home and after holding Napoli to a 0-0 draw in their group opener, they kept Liverpool at bay after the break.
