USA service members killed in Afghanistan roadside bombing

Combined, the deaths bring the number of USA troops killed in combat in Afghanistan this year to 13. The four injured people were evacuated and are receiving medical care, military officials said.

The deaths are the latest in a growing toll on U.S. forces in Afghanistan following the death of an army Ranger during an operation against al Qaeda militants in Nimruz province on Saturday. There are also several thousand U.S. Special Forces conducting counterterrorism missions.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack near the city of Ghazni, capital of the central Afghanistan province, according to the Associated Press. The two districts, which are predominantly comprised of Hazara populations, were considered to be the most secure rural districts in all of the country.

With Afghan security forces struggling to hold back increasingly confident Taliban fighters and Western appetite for further commitments uncertain, the conference comes at a sensitive moment. More typically, a general carries a pistol.

Lakers' Start is Strikingly Similar to LeBron's Last Two With New Teams
But as Lakers coach Luke Walton aptly pointed out, focusing on the misses by James and Caldwell-Pope kind of misses the point. The good news is that the Lakers are still playing well despite the fact that they are still developing team chemistry.

The military later said that Jasso was likely killed by friendly fire from partner Afghan forces after they engaged in a "close-quarter battle" during an assault on one of the multiple barricaded al-Qaeda shooters. "All of us, and through our coalition of 41 nations, recognize the threats posed by groups such as al-Qaeda and ISIS and are determined to fight them here". Taylor was the mayor of Ogden, Utah, and a member of the Utah Army National Guard.

The NATO Resolute Support mission announced that three service members and a contractor were also wounded in the explosion today near the city of Ghazni, southwest of Kabul. Of those, 12 were combat fatalities, the most in a single year since the end of 2014, when most worldwide combat troops were withdrawn from the country.

On Saturday, a U.S. soldier was killed in Nimroz province in what appeared to be an accidental shooting, the Nato-led mission also announced on Tuesday.

The deaths bring to 13 the number of USA troops killed in the country in 2018.
