CNN fires analyst Marc Lamont Hill after UN speech on Israel

"Marc Lamont Hill is no longer under contract with CNN", was the curt notice from a CNN rep to Mediaite, which first reported the news.

CNN fired Marc Lamont Hill on Thursday after the longtime contributor made comments about Israel during a United Nations speech. The network did not give a reason, but the move came amid objections to Hill's speech by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and other groups.

Soon CNN announced that Hill - described on his CNN profile as one of the "leading intellectual voices in the country" - was sacked by the news network.

"Marc Lamont Hill does not represent Temple University and his views are his own", said the statement.

"Two Palestinians were hurt by heavy ammunition when Israeli troops broke up a protest march that began following Friday prayers", Murad Ishteiwi, a popular resistance activist in the town of Kafr Qaddum (near the West Bank city of Nablus), said.

Marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which coincides on Thursday, Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Member Hanan Ashrawi said that solidarity is not just an abstract expression of empathy; rather, it is an active, positive and concrete engagement.

Congresswoman Barbara Lee defeated in pursuit of Democratic caucus chair
It's also possible that some of the people who voted against her on Wednesday could support her later on the floor. But one by one, the powerful California congresswoman picked off the would-be challengers and smoothed skeptics.

On Twitter, the author refuted this, writing "I was talking about full citizenship rights [for Palestinians] in Israel and a redrawing of the pre-1967 borders".

"In light of Dr. Hill's malevolent anti-Semitic remarks, we call upon CNN and Temple University to fire him immediately", continued NCYI. "The speech very clearly and specifically said those things", Hill added. But his statement is no more a call for the destruction of Israel than the end of Jim Crow was the destruction of America.

"Yesterday, I gave a speech at the United Nations in which I critiqued Israel's polices and practices toward Palestinians", he tweeted.

She also retweeted a petition calling on CNN to apologize and re-hire Hill.

There are perhaps no words more terrifying to hardline supporters of the State of Israel today than "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free". "It has therefore become clear that the conflict between Palestine and Israel feeds into the wider regional dynamics by having a negative effect on peace, economic development, socio-political progression and security throughout the entire region".

Ashrawi called on the worldwide community "to take immediate steps to hold Israel accountable for its persistent and willful violations and urged them to effectively adopt policies and laws that unequivocally ban the support of and/or profiteering from the illegal Israeli settler-colonial regime of occupation in Palestine, especially in Jerusalem". "I have spent my life fighting these things", Hill wrote.
