Saudi ambassador, brother of crown prince, returns to Washington

The explosive new declarations by members of President Donald Trump's own party run counter to the White House narrative downplaying possible links between Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the October killing of journalist and palace critic Khashoggi at the kingdom's Istanbul consulate.

The United Nations human rights chief on Wednesday called for an global investigation.

After being briefed by CIA Director Gina Haspel on Tuesday, members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee appeared to quell all doubts about who ordered the killing of USA -based journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

He accused bad actors in the Trump administration, "the deep state, ' of withholding information that could implicate Mohammed bin Salman in Khashoggi's murder".

The Turkish semi-public agency Anadolu reported that the prosecutor's office had requested for the arrest warrant for Qahtani and Asiri and a court in Istanbul confirmed it.

US intelligence assessments and experts say it's unlikely the killing could have happened without the crown prince's knowledge.

"The global community seems to doubt Saudi Arabia's commitment to prosecute this heinous crime", the official said, adding that by extraditing all suspects to Turkey, "Saudi authorities could address those concerns".

19 Oct Saudi Arabia confirmed that Khashoggi was killed in the Consulate of the country in Istanbul.

CIA Director to Brief Lawmakers on Saudi Journalist's Murder

Haspel delivered a closed-door briefing on the Khashoggi murder to Republican and Democratic leaders of the Senate Foreign Relations, Armed Services and Appropriations committees on Tuesday morning.

Saudi Arabia has detained 21 people and seeking the death penalty for five.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said the order to kill Khashoggi came from the highest levels of the Saudi government, but has insisted it was not King Salman. Graham said that was not played in Tuesday's briefing.

Trump and some of his fellow Republicans have argued that Washington should not take action that would risk its relationship with Riyadh, which is viewed as an important counterweight to Iran in the Middle East.

"We also call for global investigation", she said. Qahtani was a key counsellor to the crown prince.

"I am now more convinced than I was before - and I was pretty convinced - that in fact the United States must have a strong response to both the war in Yemen as well as the killing of the United States permanent resident and journalist Jamal Khashoggi", Senate Democrat Bob Menendez said.

But Asiri, the former deputy head of foreign intelligence, was not on the sanctions list.
