Google announces major expansion in New York City

Google is spending more than $1 billion to expand operations in New York City.

In a blog post, Alphabet and Google CFO Ruth Porat wrote that it is leasing large office buildings in Manhattan's West Village neighborhood, the centerpiece of a campus more than 1.7 million square-feet large. By contrast, Google didn't hold a public competition before deciding to expand its NY office, and the company says it didn't seek special tax breaks connected to the NY expansion.

After establishing its first NYC offices in 2000, Google now has more than 7,000 employees in the Big Apple.

Google said Monday it will spend $1 billion on a new New York City campus, allowing the company to double its staff there within a decade. Amazon plans to fill its New York City headquarters in Queens with 25,000 employees.

"A lot of vendors are coming to the realisation that 'We can probably find top talent elsewhere at a more affordable costs, and perhaps a better style of life for employees who may be struggling to make ends meet'". The development plan looks to establish a 1.7 million square-foot satellite location. The company has obtained leases for 315 and 345 Hudson Street. The company now employs some 7 000 people in NY.

"We believe that as our company grows, we have a responsibility to support the communities we call home", said Porat.

BJP leader Jaynarayan Vyas defends tweet on new RBI governor Shaktikanta Das
This is the first board meet chaired by the newly- appointed Shaktikanta Das , who took over as the 25th governor on Wednesday. Bankers said the one-day default rule introduced by way of the February 12 circular of RBI had been discussed threadbare.

Google already owns a city block of Manhattan that holds the Chelsea Market building, but it will expand its presence in the city once again.

It also makes sense for Google as NY has been the centre for their core advertising business, Cordwell added.

"Our investment in NY is a huge part of our commitment to grow and invest in USA facilities, offices and jobs". And this year it opened new offices and data centres in cities including Detroit; Boulder, Colorado; and Los Angeles, as well as in such states as Tennessee and Alabama.

Google hopes to start moving into the building by 2022.

Google hopes to start moving into two Hudson Street buildings by 2020, followed by a Washington Street in 2022 and will have the capacity to more than double its NY head count, now more than 7,000, in the next 10 years.
