US lettuce, cauliflower products recalled in Canada

A California farm linked to an outbreak of E.coli on romaine lettuce is recalling more leafy products and cauliflower, at least some of which was shipped to IL.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is recalling certain US cauliflower, red and green lettuce products sold across the country including in Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.

No illnesses connected to those lettuce and cauliflower have been reported.

The affected products were sold from December 3 through December 14. Farming, Inc. issued a voluntary recall for red leaf lettuce, green leaf lettuce and cauliflower after E. coli was found in a reservoir near where it was grown. Farming Inc. of Santa Maria California have been recalled.

Potentially affected cauliflower was distributed to wholesalers in Arizona, California, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, as well as Canada and Tijuana, Mexico.

'Filtered and treated water from the reservoir may have come in contact with the produce after it was harvested'. The lettuces were sold to wholesales in California, Colorado, Oregon, Texas, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Canada.

The products were imported by Adam Bros.

Of the 59 people who were sickened across 15 states during the E. coli outbreak, 23 were hospitalized including two people who developed a type of kidney failure.

The CFIA is warning consumers, restaurants and institutions not to purchase, sell or consume these products.

The symptoms of an E. coli infection include severe and painful abdominal cramps, diarrhea that may be bloody, and a mild fever.
