Ellen DeGeneres slammed for defending Kevin Hart’s homophobic tweets

The 39-year-old comedian opened up about stepping down from hosting the Oscars after past homophobic tweets of his were brought to light again - and people called for him to apologize and no longer host the show.

Ellen DeGeneres is urging Kevin Hart to reconsider hosting this year's Oscars. "Let me assess, just sit in the space and really think". Hart said the tweets were from almost a decade ago and that he has matured since then.

The vanilla talk show host, who has also hosted the Oscars, has made a surprisingly vigorous defense of the actor/comedian - and rightly received a Twitter lashing from members of the LGBTQ community.

He continued: "I look at life through a different lens and because of that I live it a different way. He was already telling me his set and jokes and going over what he was going to do". "Because that was wrong". "We feel like maybe he misunderstood or it was handled wrong or maybe we said the wrong thing but we want him to host, '" DeGeneres told Hart and the audience of her conversation.

DeGeneres shared the first clip on her Twitter account, captioning it "I believe in forgiveness".

For defending Kevin Hart and believing in giving him a second chance, DeGeneres was quickly attacked.

- Kevin Hart (@KevinHart4real) December 7, 2018I'm sorry that I hurt people. Telling Hart she called the Academy herself, DeGeneres encouraged Hart to focus on what matters - his multiple apologies and his growth - rather than critical voices online.

Ellen DeGeneres invited Hart on her talk show in an episode airing Friday - and it appears the daytime queen is attempting to broker peace between Hart and the Academy.

"Has Kevin Hart made any meaningful effort to reach out to the LGTBQ community and listen to their perspective on why his past comments are so offensive and damaging?" Hostin added. "When is a person allowed to become an ally?"

Whether or not The Upside actor will grace the Oscar stage remains unknown, but hopefully Hart realizes that the lesson in this moment can not be understated.

Hart added: "Either my apology is accepted or it isn't". I've yet to go back to that version of the immature comedian I once was. I was called fag by people I loved before I even understood what being gay meant. "Either I can move forward, or I can't". "I want to be done with this conversation". You're apologising again right now. don't let those people win. That's yet to be seen, though it is odd that they have not yet announced a new host. The Jumanji 2 actor is reportedly still the top choice for the job, though producers are said to be woking hard on continuing the show without him. "So, as a member of the 'mob, ' I guess, I still say what I said before: Find another host this year".
