Flu cases surge: What you need to know to stay healthy

The Arkansas Department of Heath says four people have died as a result of the flu since its last report more than two weeks ago.

Public Health Officer for Brown County, Anna Destree, says the number one way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated. "Another thing is the vaccine might be a lot more effective this year than last year", Hu said.

Officials say that as of December 22, there were 461 laboratory-confirmed flu cases in DE, more than double the 225 laboratory-confirmed cases reported at this time previous year.

The CDC urges everyone six months of age and older to get a seasonal flu vaccine.

At this point a year ago, there were 11,275 confirmed cases.

The flu vaccine is a combination vaccine against two strains of influenza A and one strain of influenza B.

Officials said that as the "season" continues to ramp up, it is important to take preventive steps to keep yourself healthy.

Recently, a 65-year-old man who was infected with Influenza A died, making him the first flu fatality. By that season's end, the state logged more than 6,400 hospitalizations, along with 435 deaths.

The weakening will also likely slow the Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes, which will weaken the US dollar. There are some indications from China that they're looking at that, but we don't know that yet.

So far, provinces have reported 1,046 hospitalizations related to influenza and 24 deaths. "So it can protect them against that later bump if we do have it this year".

If untreated, the CDC said the flu can lead to more complicated health problems like bacterial infections and pneumonia.

If you get the flu, antiviral drugs such as Tamiflu and Relenza can make your illness less severe.

An early start to the flu season is responsible for the increase, Dr. Jennifer Russell, the province's chief medical officer, told CTV Atlantic.

Even though the flu season is underway, there are still potentially several months of the season left, and it's not too late to get a flu shot.

They say now is a good time to get the vaccine, before a wave of sickness hits the area.

Stay home when you are ill-especially do not visit the hospital if you have flu-like symptoms.
