FBI probed whether Trump secretly worked for Russia

Friday's New York Time's report said the intelligence officials had to consider whether the president's actions had constituted a "threat to national security".

The report, published late on Friday, cites unnamed former law enforcement officials and others familiar with the investigation. But Trump's behavior in the days around Comey's May 2017 firing, specifically two instances in which he seemed to tie Comey's ousting to the Russian Federation investigation, helped trigger the counterintelligence part of the investigation, according to the Times' sources.

Trump and his allies have offered a series of changing explanations for his decision to fire Comey, which has complicated investigators' effort to determine his intent.

"The fact that it goes back a year and a half and nothing came it that showed a breach of national security means they found nothing", said Rudolph Giuliani, a lawyer for the president.

"Not that it matters but I never fired James Comey because of Russian Federation!"

The investigation has not concluded and the public has not been notified of the final results.

The second issue that reportedly concerned the Federal Bureau of Investigation was Trump's May 11, 2017 interview with NBC News, in which Lest Holt pressed him on the timing of the firing.

Mr. Giuliani said the special counsel brought up possibly having follow-up questions, but Mr. Trump's lawyers said their client would not answer them. Trump also plays a central role in a separate case in NY, where prosecutors have implicated him in a crime.

Ms Alqunun and her supporters drew global attention to her case through a social media campaign launched mostly on Twitter. Alqunun's appeal for refugee status also underscored the severe restrictions that women in Saudi Arabia face.

Comey's firing, rather than ending the Russian Federation investigation, led directly to the appointment, over Trump's objections, of Mueller, another former FBI director, to take over the Russian Federation probe.

President, "There was no collusion, Matt Whitaker is right".

At least three different congressional committees, including the Senate Intelligence Committee, have also been probing various aspects of Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 election.

In addition to determining whether or not the President was working for Russian Federation, the FBI also opened a criminal investigation to determine if the President's firing of Comey was obstruction of justice.

On CNN, one of the reporters responded to the statement from the White House.

Twenty months later, the Mueller probe has yet to publicly produce evidence of a conspiracy to tamper with the election.

According to the paper, both lines of inquiry are now under Mueller's purview.
