U.S. to 'Devastate' Turkish Economy if Kurds Attacked

Russia, which has deployed forces into Syria in support of the Damascus regime, said it had the impression that the United States wanted to stay despite the announced withdrawal of USA troops, RIA news agency reported.

Ahead of Trump's move, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened to launch another operation in Syria targeting the US-backed Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

No U.S. personnel have left Syria yet, according to a Pentagon spokesman. He [Trump] told our president two times about withdrawal.

The US is beginning to pull out its troops from Syria, while fighting the remains of the IS terrorist group (outlawed in Russia) in the country, US President Donald Trump stated on his Twitter on Sunday.

The Kurds have sought Russian meditation for the talks with President Bashar al-Assad's government, part of their strategy to fill a vacuum that will be left when USA forces withdraw.

Pompeo's remarks follow tensions between the United States and Turkey over the fate of Washington's allies in the fight against ISIS. "Likewise, do not want the Kurds to provoke Turkey", he said in a second tweet.

Pompeo said he had spoken to his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, earlier on Saturday, adding that there are "many details still to be worked out", but that he was optimistic both sides could achieve "a good outcome there".

"The U.S.is withdrawing from northeast Syria in a strong, deliberate and coordinated manner, and seeks to ensure that the forces that have fought alongside coalition partners in the campaign against ISIS are not mistreated", an administration official said following the president's tweet.

In a rare acknowledgment that French troops were also in Syria, he said they would leave when there is a political solution in the country.

USA national security adviser John Bolton suggested on Tuesday that protecting Washington's Kurdish allies would be a precondition of the U.S. withdrawal.

"Many of the Kurdish statements were positive regarding their concern for the unity of Syria", he said.

Turkey sees the Kurdish YPG militia close to its border as a security threat.

The US-led coalition on Saturday fired more than 20 missiles against militant positions, the Observatory said.

Turkey on Saturday welcomed the latest statement made by Washington's top diplomat over Ankara's right to defend itself from "terrorists" after the USA withdraws from Syria. "Turkey expects the U.S. to honor our strategic partnership and doesn't want it to be shadowed by terrorist propaganda", Kalin wrote.

He did not say how Turkey's economy would suffer if it attacked the YPG.
