The Hill: Ocasio-Cortez to Join House Financial Services Committee

Ms Ocasio-Cortez has previously called for a 70 per cent top tax rate and for the biggest banks to be broken up.

"Banks have lobbied big-[money] Democrats to champion deregulation and make it look 'bipartisan, '" she tweeted in June 2017 after the House passed a sweeping set of banking rollbacks aimed at spurring economic growth.

Former Gov. Scott Walker and U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continue to butt heads, and this time the two took to Twitter to express their differences on marginal tax rates.

Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter in response to the new survey. "I started tuning in more to activism and really getting to the core of these issues", she said.

She framed her appointment as a big achievement by pointing out how exclusive the House committee is - "one of just four". "And the Democratic Party is not going to succeed that way".

"I don't think it's surprising", Ocasio-Cortez said of the poll results in an interview with The Hill". "I understand guys like this like the back of my hand".

Asked at the White House to respond to her, Trump shook his head, waved dismissively and grimaced: 'Who cares?'

Although he doesn't view Ocasio-Cortez as an imminent threat to markets, Valliere says if enacted, her tax agenda would add to the federal deficit, already projected to approach $1 trillion in 2019.
