China's Huawei books record sales in its smartphone business

Read said that if it were the case that Huawei equipment needed to be replaced in its core network it would not be particularly expensive or disruptive.

Reuters reported on Thursday that the arrest may have put Huawei out of the running to supply equipment for Poland's future 5G network.

Vodafone has suspended the use of Huawei equipment in its core networks, amid mounting security concerns about the Chinese firm's technology.

In addition to this, the South Korean tech said that it is already in talks with major mobile operators in Korea, North America and Europe, which are some of the countries that will witness the launch of 5G services sooner than others.

Some carriers kept Chinese suppliers out of the core - the gateway that connects other parts of the network - even before the latest global crackdown on Huawei, because it's seen as critical by security officials.

"It needs to move into a structured conversation, with facts, otherwise this can tailspin into more emotion than facts", he said.

The company claims that the Balong 5000 chipset and the Huawei 5G CPE Pro will "provide the world's fastest wireless connections for your smartphone, your home, the office, and on the go".

Huawei is estimated to have a market share of 35 percent through the whole of Europe.

But some Western countries have barred Huawei after USA officials briefed allies that Huawei is at the beck and call of the Chinese state, warning that its network equipment may contain "back doors" that could open them up to cyber espionage.

Governments and telecoms firms around the world are in a race to deploy so-called 5G or fifth generation networks, with commercial services already available in the United States and South Korea.

A company spokesman said it had been a long-term partner to Vodafone since 2007, adding that the firm understood Vodafone was only pausing deployment in its core networks in Europe.

Huawei recently threatened to withdraw from Western countries whose governments demand restrictions on its equipment's use.

The telecoms equipment market is dominated by three companies - Huawei, Finland's Nokia (NOK) and Sweden's Ericsson (ERIC).

Investors are watching the shifting winds affecting Huawei closely, too.

"At Huawei, we never do these kinds of things", he said.

Analysts had expected growth of 0.3 percent.
