Trump Caved So Hard People Are Searching What ‘Caving’ Means

President Donald Trump on Friday brought a temporary end to the longest government shutdown in USA history, while dropping his previous insistence on immediate funding for wall construction along the Mexican border.

"We will build the Wall!" he added. It doesn't mean that I don't want border security. I do.

Mulvaney said Sunday that part of the reason the government was reopened was to "take the Democrats at their word" that they would be willing to negotiate the terms of a border barrier deal.

Gidley said that Trump had repeatedly asked for the sort of border funding that USA security officials said they needed, only to encounter intransigent Democrats in Congress.

For weeks, Trump said he would not sign a funding measure that did not include money for a border wall.

Despite that argument, the shutdown's end was widely seen in the capital and beyond as the president giving in, which played out in media coverage: The Washington Post described Trump's "capitulation to Democrats" as "a humiliating low point in a polarizing presidency".

A minority of the United States public supports Trump's plan to erect a wall on the southern border with Mexico, and Trump's average disapproval rating spiked during the shutdown from 52% to 56%.

The shutdown ended as Democratic leaders had insisted it must, with the government first reopening and then talks about border security.

The bill signed Friday ended the 35-day shutdown, the longest in US history, and will allow for a bipartisan conference committee in Congress to review Department of Homeland Security requests for border security.

He used gene-editing technology known as CRISPR (short for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats ). He Jiankui's announcement of the first gene-edited babies, at a conference in November a year ago , shocked the world.

"But I think what we simply do", he added, "is go to the Democrats and say, 'Look, are you telling the people the truth?"

The White House held a conference call with Cabinet department financial officers late Friday to discuss the resumption of government operations, while agencies began to grapple with a backlog of management and policy issues.

Trump agreed on Friday to reopen the government after a 35-day partial shutdown by accepting a deal to continue funding - without money for a wall - until February 15 to allow for bipartisan negotiations on a border-security plan. "Regardless of what they try and say and the tears that stream down their cheeks, they did nothing to protect the American people".

"@SpeakerPelosi should give the State of the Union since she's obviously the one running the country", tweeted Rep. Karen Bass, D-Calif. "But at the end of the day, the president is going to secure the border one way or another".

Trump, in a weakened negotiating position, will try again to persuade lawmakers to finance the wall, with a February 15 deadline looming as he holds out the potential of another shutdown.

Mulvaney said Trump agreed to temporarily end the shutdown because some Democrats have stepped forward, publicly and privately, to say they agree with Trump's plan to better secure the border.
