Raptors nearing deal for Marc Gasol

It will be a big offseason for the Raptors with Leonard and Gasol both potentially entering free agency. Boston (+260) stood pat before the deadline.

The Memphis Grizzlies are still trying to find a trade partner for guard Mike Conley, and with less than five hours to go before the trade deadline, no deal has materialized despite teams like the Utah Jazz and the Detroit Pistons showing interest in acquiring the 11-year veteran. Philadelphia entered Thursday at +300 to win the East. The Bucks attempt the second-most three-pointers in the National Basketball Association, but their best player, MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo, can't shoot three-pointers to save his life (about the only thing he can't do). I just know one thing.

There were rumblings suggesting the team was in talks with the Memphis Grizzlies and it appears those conversations finally led to a deal getting done as the Raptors acquired Marc Gasol. ESPN, which first reported the deal, said CJ Miles and Delon Wright will also be going to Memphis. Sure, losing Wright hurts the depth, but Toronto is set at backup point guard with Fred VanVleet.

Ice Storm Warning issued for most of Chicago area Tuesday evening
Rainfall amounts will be low enough to limit the risk for river flooding, but ice jams could still be possible along the rivers. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Toronto and much of the GTA, warning of freezing rain Wednesday.

Since the 2016-17 season, Gasol has been good for 1.4 3-pointers per game, doing so at a 35.7 percent clip. As an assistant he had worked closely with Valanciunas over many years, often travelling overseas in the summer to see him. But three of the four Raptors who played the most minutes against the Cavs last May - DeMar DeRozan, Miles, and Valanciunas - are now all gone.

The 6ft 10in Mirotic is averaging 16.7 points per game and 8.3 rebounds, both career highs, in 32 games.

Gasol, 34, is on contract for $21.1 million (U.S.) this season with a player option worth $25.5 million next year. Originally drafted in the second round by the Jazz out of high school in 2005, the 6-foot-5 wing player had played for Utah (2005-12), Cleveland (2012-14) and in (2014-17) before signing a three-year deal with Toronto last offseason.
