Otto Era Over — Washington Wizards

The Chicago Bulls have acquired forward Otto Porter Jr. from the Washington Wizards in exchange for forwards Jabari Parker and Bobby Portis, and a protected 2023 second-round draft pick.

Porter undoubtedly improved in his first five seasons in the league, but his sixth season has seen him plateau and struggle to stay healthy.

Portis is a young power forward in his fourth National Basketball Association season with some intrigue, now averaging 14.1 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 37.5 per cent from three-point range.

Portis, turning 24 on February 10, was passed over in the 2015 NBA Draft when Washington moved up to take Kelly Oubre Jr. despite liking the Arkansas product. Prior to Wednesday, the Wizards had said they wanted to keep Porter around.

Portis, 23, and the Bulls couldn't come to terms on a contract extension before the season, and he stood to become a restricted free agent this summer.

James weighs in on Mavericks trading Barnes mid-game
Davis last week demanded a trade, but the New Orleans Pelicans reportedly are refusing to play ball and not comply . The Kings will use their remaining $10.5 million of cap space to acquire Barnes.

This season, he's played 41 games and has averaged 12.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists. The Athletic reported the team was planning on keeping Beal, Wall and Porter.

Heading into the 2018-19 season, the Wizards owed Porter more than $81 million after he signed a four-year, $106 million deal before the 2017-18 season. The power forward had averaged 14.1 points per game this season but has appeared in just 22 games.

Parker, 23, is making $20 million this season and has a team option for $20 million on the books, too. Beyond unloading Porter's contract, the Wizards save about $4M this season (accounting for Parker's and Portis' contracts) and lower their luxury tax bill.

Ahead of Thursday's 3 p.m. trade deadline, it is highly plausible that the Wizards make another move or two.
