Trump calls on Ilhan Omar to resign over 'anti-Semitic' tweets

Earlier Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats had rebuked her for the tweets.

Omar supports a movement known as BDS, for "boycott, divestment and sanctions" aimed at Israel.

Omar on Monday tweeted out an apology after a conversation with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that followed widespread outrage over her remarks.

Omar is facing massive backlash after she quote-tweeted a link to an article by Haaretz where House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy threatened punishment against Omar and Democratic Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib, America's first two Muslim congresswomen; both Omar and Tlaib have been embroiled in allegations of anti-Semitism.

Trump's call for her resignation is rich to say the least. "Anti-Semitism has no place in the United States Congress", Trump said Tuesday.

As Democrats and as Americans, the entire Congress must be fully engaged in denouncing and rejecting all forms of hatred, racism, prejudice and discrimination wherever they are encountered.

Ariana Grande Defends Her Decision To Walk Away From The Grammys
The star stayed silent about those rumors, until she saw a new Associated Press interview with Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich . In the second verse, she admits: "Though I wish he were here instead, don't want that living in your head".

Omar was responding to a tweet from Glenn Greenwald, a journalist who argued on Twitter that the Republicans' move to equate Omar and Tlaib's criticism of Israel to the embrace of white supremacist rhetoric by Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, "is obscene". "I'm proud [Omar] raised the issue of lobbyist [money] in politics & equally proud of her sensitivity to communities. The continuing controversies will make it hard for Omar to enlist the congressional colleagues she'll need to get the work done", the Star Tribune wrote.

Among those who condemned Omar were Democratic and Republican lawmakers; Dan Shapiro, former US ambassador to Israel during the Obama administration; and Jewish organizations.

On the CBN News program "Faith Nation", Neil Strauss of the Republican Jewish Coalition explained why Omar's remarks were anti-Semitic. "I think it was a bad statement and I don't think her apology was adequate.". The popular weeklong excursions for members of Congress, their families and some senior staff can cost upward of $12,000 per person and are meant to "educate political leaders and influencers about the importance of the US - Israel relationship through firsthand experiences".

U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) participates in a news conference to call on Congress to cut funding for ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, U.S., February 7, 2019. "We know that numerous attacks against her are created to discredit a new generation of political leaders who are opposed to the Netanyahu government's racist policies", wrote IfNotNow, an American Jewish activist group that opposes the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. She was referencing the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the pro-Israel lobby in Washington.

Omar has also expressed regret for tweeting in 2012: "Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel". Such legislation includes financial support for Israel and measures that would ban boycotts of Israel, including the BDS movement. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Kamala Harris of California, Cory Booker of New Jersey, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Sherrod Brown of OH - all opposed it.

One of those notes was one that read, "Mazel Tov".
