Humanitarian aid sent by the United States recently arrived in the Colombian city of Cucuta at the border with Venezuela, but Maduro has refused to let in the shipments.

Venezuela's opposition leader Juan Guaido said Monday that his team had delivered its first round of humanitarian aid amid objections from President Nicolas Maduro, Reuters reports. The U.S.is calling for elections in Venezuela and for worldwide aid deliveries to be allowed to enter the country.

Maduro has overseen an economic collapse in the oil-rich OPEC country that has left many Venezuelans malnourished and struggling to find medicine, sparking the exodus of an estimated 3 million Venezuelans.

He also said that Maduro does not know how to finance this alleged warlike scenario and this is one of the reasons why the presiding parliament has asked global financial organizations not to deliver the assets of Venezuela to the government.

"We are a pacifist people as long as no one messes with us, that Donald Trump does not threaten us", Maduro said. But anti-Maduro street protests have come and gone, and large-scale military defections have failed to materialize.

Lester Toledo, head of Guaido's aid distribution team, told reporters that the Roraima center would start receiving supplies next week.

Guaido said he was issuing a "direct order" to the armed forces to allow the aid in, though so far there are not clear signs the military will disobey Maduro. To do so, he needs the support of the armed forces. "We don't need a building to be an embassy", she said at a news conference at Brazil's Foreign Ministry. "Who are we? Venezuelan doctors!"

"We want everything to go as quickly as possible, but holding elections in a month is impossible".

Belandria met with Foreign Minister Ernesto Araujo to discuss, among other matters, ways to "send food and medicine to alleviate the suffering of the Venezuelan people subjected to Maduro's illegitimate regime", the ministry said in a statement.

Venezuela's financial accountability authority announced a probe into Guaido's income on Monday, saying he had "allegedly. received money from global and national bodies without any justification".

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has reiterated his offer of good offices for a serious negotiation in Venezuela that benefits the people and helps to alleviate tensions that country is facing on Tuesday.

"We are politically defining the steps and they are responding to what we put forth", Arellano said.

He said he will reject the "minuscule crumbs that they intend to bring with toxic food, with leftovers that they have".

While keen on papal mediation, Maduro was less impressed last week when a group of European and Latin American ministers called for new presidential elections.

Mr Guaido called the move "almost genocidal".
