Bayern takes swipe at Germany coach over dropped players

The German Football Association have forcefully ended the worldwide careers of World Cup winners striker Thomas Muller and defenders Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels. Together with the DFB we have come a long, intense and mostly successful way over the last years.

"Thomas Muller (100 global caps), Mats Hummels (70) and Jerome Boateng (76) have played a total of 246 games for Germany and they helped shape an extremely successful decade for the DFB with winning the World Cup in 2014 being an absolute highlight".

"2019 is a new beginning for the Germany national team", said Low. I thank Mats, Jerome and Thomas for many successful, extraordinary and unique years together.

"Basically, we do not comment on sporting decisions of the national coach, the nomination of the squad of the national team is exclusively the responsibility of Joachim Low", the club said on Wednesday.

Loew made the announcement with Germany to host Serbia on March 20 in a friendly, before playing a Euro 2020 qualifier away to the Netherlands four days later. We want to give the team a new look.

'I have no understanding for the suggested definitiveness of this decision.

'Of course I was surprised by the decision of the coach, ' the 29-year-old said in a video posted to Twitter.

"It was important to me personally to explain my thoughts and plans to the players and managers of FC Bayern", added Loew, who flew to Munich to speak to the trio.

"The national team's young players will receive the space necessary to develop fully".

"However, we believe the timing and circumstances of the announcement of this decision to the players and to the public for questionable. You have to take responsibility now".

'I was always extremely proud to wear the national team top and I will never forget the summer of 2014.

"I am sad about this news because it has always been the greatest thing for me to represent my country", the defender wrote on Instagram. I was once young myself and depended on older players making room for me. Even so, I would have liked a different farewell for us, of course.

With a year to go before the European championships, Loew feels now is the time to remove more of his old guard having already last year dropped Sami Khedira, another 2014 World Cup victor. "I wish the national team the best of luck for the future".
