Orange Wind Warning Issued As Storm Gareth Approaches Ireland

In addition to the strong winds, Storm Gareth will bring heavy rain for the East of England.

The Met Office in the United Kingdom has issued a "danger to life" warning but Met Eireann has only released a mid-level warning and doesn't believe Gareth will be as much of a concern here.

There is also risk of coastal flooding due to high seas along Atlantic coasts.

Met Eirean say the Status Orange weather alert will remain in place for counties Mayo, Galway, Sligo, Leitrim, and Donegal until 9am this morning.

The warning runs from 9pm on Tuesday until 3pm on Wednesday.

The yellow warning for the rest of Ireland warns of sustained winds reaching 65km/hr and gusts of up to 110km/hr during Storm Gareth.

"Heavy rain followed by squally showers will lead to the risk of rainfall accumulations of around 25mm".

Mr Deacon added: "It will be a very very windy day wherever you are in the country on Wednesday".

Over the weekend the high winds wrought havoc across the region, with gusts of up to 60mph recorded in some areas. Showers will gradually ease through the morning, becoming confined to northeast Ulster in the afternoon. Lowest temperatures 2 to 5 degrees. Afternoon highs will be around 7 to 10 degrees, but up to 11 degrees near the southeast coast.

"Eastern areas might start getting some very strong winds by that point, but generally across much of the United Kingdom, it's going to be very windy this morning". Another weather front of rain and winds sweep across Britain on Friday.
