Nissan to pull Infiniti production out of Sunderland

Nissan will electrify its luxury division's portfolio from 2021 onward and discontinue diesel offerings to focus on its SUV lineup in North America and unveil five new models in China.

Infiniti sales were down 78% previous year, with 750 cars registered, according to SMMT figures. According to the plan, Infiniti will withdraw from western European markets in early 2020.

By way of comparison, Lexus managed 47,170 sales across Europe in 2018, which trailed Alfa Romeo (83,438), Jaguar (84,311), Land Rover (150,283), and Volvo (319,048) by a significant margin. The spokesperson assured that they will continue selling cars in Eastern Europe and in Russian Federation.

INFINITI announced on Tuesday that it will pull out of Western European markets, starting now.

Infiniti will withdraw its manufacturing and sales operations from the United Kingdom in 2020 as it targets electrification and growth in Western Europe, China and the US.

"The commercial reality for Infiniti in western Europe is that there is simply no visibility of a viable and sustainable business, especially given the regulatory challenges", he said. Executives said that they were "working to find alternative opportunities" for all affected staff.

It added: 'As a result of this restructuring plan, production of the Q30 and QX30 is to cease by mid-2019 at the manufacturing location in Sunderland, UK.
