Wow, Indeed: Wow Air Ceases Operations, Stranding Travelers

After starting operations in 2012, the airline expanded quickly to 37 destinations and reported up to 60 percent annual growth in passenger numbers.

But this was soon replaced with a statement reading: "WOW Air has ceased operation". Generally speaking, when a flight is cancelled, refunds and rebooking are well within the realm of possibility, but that's not looking likely in this case. "Passengers scheduled to travel with WOW AIR should not travel to the airport and should instead visit www.wowair.com/travel-alert/ for more information".

This week sawWOW Air cancel a string of flights, including 20 on Sunday, six on Monday and Tuesday and four on Wednesday.

Founded in 2011, Wow was one of the budget airlines to offer cheap flights across the Atlantic.

Through Wow staff announcements at the airport and e-mails from the company, passengers were given different stories - the flight was cancelled, then delayed, then available another day, then cancelled.

The Icelandic airline said customers are encouraged to reach out to other airlines to ask about "rescue fares" in light of the circumstances.

"Passengers who may have bought travel protection, or those passengers whose credit card terms may include such protection, may be entitled to claim compensation and assistance due to delays or travel disruption".

She has twice held the Smackdown Women's title but, now 32, next month's battle at Wrestlemania will be her crowning moment. She's expected to beat Ronda and Charlotte at WrestleMania walk out of the show as the new Raw Women's Champion.

If a credit card was used to pay for the flight, that company might have a level of protection too and issue some form of a refund, Wow Air said.

"Many passengers are stranded without any place to stay tonight or any idea of what's going on", Adi said in a tweet to the airline last night.

It operated both short and long haul routes, flying to Copenhagen and Alicante in Europe and Washington and Boston in the US.

The budget carrier is the latest in a string of airlines to fail over the past two years - as oil prices have risen sharply.

Last week, WOW Air announced that the Phoenix-based equity investment firm, Indigo Partners had pulled out of a rescue deal - plunging the future of the low-priced airline into doubt.

Icelandair is offering stranded WOW passengers special fares to get to Iceland.

In 2018, WOW Air, which employs 1,000 people, transported 3.5 million passengers. The sale, said the airline, was a part of WOW air ongoing restructuring and to ensure the maximum utilization of its remaining fleet.
